WRITING LESSONS
We have a section called Writing
Lessons which offers information
about various poetry forms.
Check this out! And then see if
you can master them. We added
this information because we
received emails from some folks
about how to write a "haiku."
"I
have learned that success is to
be measured not so much by the
position that one has reached in
life as by the obstacles which
he has overcome while trying to
succeed."

if 2 morrow never

what will the world

what will be my

would it be that

Black Man Wish not
for fame
Your beautiful black
skin can't bear that
shame
Black Man Wish not
for fancy cars
Your fathers' back
is bruised with
scars
Black Man Wish not
for money
Such iniquities
won't set Sundiata
free
Black Man Wish not
for freedom
Your mama still
cries to Heaven's
Kingdom
If you must wish for
something
As all black men do,
Black Man Wish for
more...
Black Men Who look
like you.

What God sees
by bynesbit (bynesbit),
in Community
What God sees
Life is a parallel
of beginnings
Each step measured
in the mind as
eternity
And decisions of the
heart cascade into
events of
consequence
And destiny
Knowing is a clue
that is weighed by
emotion
Wisdom is the
ability to take each
step with navigation
Understanding is the
divine revelation
The heat of the sun
will glare
For we are just as
the grass of the
field
A jaded flower of
temperance
To grow in rain
Made of and planted
in God’s great
creation
It is a greater deed
of us to search this
rolling plain
To dream, to love,
to rise, to fall
And then within to
hear our savior's
call
Like thunder yet a
whisper in the
soul...
He called the old
Because they know
the way
The young... because
they are strong
And then the
internal search
begins
Like diamonds
discovered in
crusted coal
We find reason in
our nights
Glory in our plight
Without eyes a
greater sight
Though we may not
always be
What all we think we
should
He pulls and turns
us on the potters
wheel
Continually saying
... it is good
And we learn to fall
in love with what
God sees
